Mississippi Boychoir is announcing the expansion of its signature youth enrichment program into the River City. The choir welcomes boys in elementary, middle, and high school who are interested in learning more about music.

Founded in Columbus in 1995, Mississippi Boychoir has also had groups in Tupelo, Jackson, Hattiesburg and on the Gulf Coast at various times in its 21-year existence. Following a multi-year reorganization effort, the group is poised to expand from its current Jackson base into other parts of Mississippi. Artistic Director Nancy Robertson says Vicksburg is a logical choice. “I have lived and worked in Vicksburg for many years,” says Robertson, longtime choir director at Warren Central High School, “so when we began talking about getting out into the rest of the state, Vicksburg seemed like the perfect place to begin our expansion.”

An important aspect of the Mississippi Boychoir experience is the diversity of its membership, says board president, Ezra Wall. “Our boys learn to succeed as part of a team that includes kids from both ends of the economic spectrum and multiple racial backgrounds,” he says. “We do everything we can to offer this opportunity to any boy who is interested and capable, regardless of his family’s financial status.”
