Choir Notes - 5/27/15

HELLO PARENTS!

WELCOME TO "CHOIR NOTES" ON OUR MISSISSIPPI BOYCHOIR WEBSITE!

The Mississippi Boychoir is an arts-based educational and youth development nonprofit that also offers fun, friendship, and travel to boys who love to sing!

Dear Parents,

We are already getting booked up with some exciting performances for next season. These include having Guest Artist and Internationally renowned Composer/Conductor Jim Papoulis (who we were honored to participate with at last summer's Cincinnati Festival!) come and lead our boys during Fall Camp in a workshop where he will collaborate with them in composing their own original choral composition. He will then return in May as our Guest Artist on our Spring Concert to conduct our boys in their Premier of this original choral creation.

Other major performances include our invitation from Mississippi Opera Director, Dr. Jay Dean, to perform in the Mississippi Opera's production of the world famous opera "Carmen" WHICH WILL BE PERFORMED AT THALIA MARA HALL in Jackson on April 23rd. Other engagements include a performance of "A Charlie Brown Christmas" at a Gala Holiday Luncheon for over 550 employees of Blue Cross Blue Shield and a performance at "A Cajun Christmas" at the Natural Science Museum.

So, next season is already looking to be full of great opportunities for our boys!

Thank you for all that you do and for your support of our commitment to these talented boys and their future success!

Mr. Thompson

We have had a wonderful season!  Performances this season included the Matthews Wedding in New Orleans, collaboration with the Mississippi Chorus in HODIE, "Fondren Unwrapped", the Old Capitol Museum at Christmas, & our Fall and Winter Camps at Wesley Pines, the collaboration concert with the Metropolitan Male Chorus, more performances in the Mississippi  Opera's production of the opera, Tosca, our Spring Tour, our Concert at St. Andrew's "Arts on the Green" and our Spring Concert.

We now prepare for our Festival trip to the Crescent City Choral Festival in New Orleans this June 25 - June 30!

We have attended the New Orleans Festival twice in recent summers, and it is by far the most popular and unforgettable one with the boys! It includes the exciting final Mass Concert at St. Louis Cathedral in Jackson Square, great International guest conductors, meeting and making friends with other choir members from all over the world, Dinner and Dance on Mississippi Riverboat, hotel pool and fun train ride to and from New Orleans). It is also the most affordable for more of our families (no airfare) and has proved to be an exciting and unforgettable educational, musical and interpersonal experience for our boys. It will be a privilege to, once again, have the world renowned director and composer, Bob Chilcotte as a guest conductor to share his knowledge and expertise with our boys. Mr. Chilcotte is one of the foremost composer's of Choral Music for Children in the world.

Parents, thanks for all that you do for your sons and for helping to make them and this very special organization the vital and prominent arts organization that we are becoming for our state, as well as nationally and internationally!

Many Thanks,

Mr. Thompson              --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
