Mississippi Boychoir is honored to have Jim Papoulis, world-renowned composer and conductor, collaborate with the choir this season! During its semi-annual choral retreat in mid-September, Jim, who specializes in composing and conducting youth choirs, spent the weekend co-creating and recording a choral piece with the boys of Missisippi Boychoir to be released at a later date. He will also return to Mississippi in the Spring of 2016 to conduct the choir in its inaugural performance of the piece.
βThe young men of Mississippi Boychoir really enjoyed their time spent with Jim this month. They are so fortunate to have the opportunity to collaborate with a world-renowned professional on a one-to-one basis at this stage in their lives. We were thrilled to have him join us for Fall Camp and cannot wait to present our work this spring,β stated artistic director, Nancy Robertson.
Jim is known for work that combines contemporary, classical, and world sounds, and for his choral work which is often sung from the perspective of the singer. Jim especially enjoys working with youth who have faced adversity in their young lives. As co-founder of Foundation for Small Voices, Jim conducts song-writing workshops throughout the world.
